Where the hell have I been?

Wed May 13, 2009, 12:57 PM
^kkart caught up with my on Facebook recently and asked me where the hell I've been. Really? All over! Just not DeviantArt.

This entire year has been flying by. Seems like I'm always busy, but I can hardly remember what's been keeping me so busy. Nothing of any real significance, I guess. To some anyway. I work 38 hours a week serving food to mostly thankless corporate employees. After that I fill my time with sitting at the Applebee's bar, reading (Stephen King, of late. Thanks to my roomate, Zac, for starting me in on the Dark Tower series. Now my soul belongs to Stephen King.), watching Castle on Monday's (I want it back!), and occasionally going where and doing something fun. It's bad when you can't think what fills up most of your time, right? I sleep. I work. I sit at the bar drinking soda and talking to the staff of the bee's and horsing around with my friends. I play softball on Sundays (5 and 1 ya'll!).

My mom recently got married to a really special guy. And when I say special I mean it in the retard sort of way. Haha, I kid. He really is a great guy. And special.

I moved in with two of my best friends in April and it's been going swimmingly.

My love life has been up and down and recently up. It's an amazing feeling to let go and just let life take hold of you. It's been working so far! Ya know that song "Hold on loosely" by .38 special? Too true.

I haven't been doing much photography, but I hope to change that this summer. I'm learning to work on less sleep, so I intend to devote more of my day doing things instead of winding down from work, sleeping and working. Going to bed with it still light out really blows!

I'm going to Phoenix at some point in the next few months to stay with a great friend of mine, so I'm very excited for the photo opportunities to come of that.

Basically, life is life. I'm living it happily, and not spending a lot of time worrying over the internet. It feels good!

On that note, one last check of the email and I'm off to shower.

I would like to promise you'll see more of me over the coming months, but I've learned better.

Up in the Air

Sun Jan 25, 2009, 3:50 PM
So, some of you may have heard and many of you may not...George Clooney will be filming the majority of a new movie called "Up in the Air" right here in St. Louis between March 3 (Happy Birthday to Meeeee!) and April 22...They held and open call this weekend to cast a shit-ton of extras for the movie, and so my friends Zac and Shawn and I all went down to try out our luck. I took some headshots beforehand so we'd be set (Shawn - ~visionthrumyeyes - took mine for me) and the casting director we talked to seemed pretty impressed.

It was actually kinda fun standing in line for nearly an hour only to be told to come back in another 2.5 hours, then to stand in line for about 4 more. We were in that mall from 11:30am to about 6pm. But we made it fun, met some cool people (a girl who looked a hell of a lot like Megan Fox) and hopefully it will all pay off.

After being on our feet all day and nearly peeing myself, we got to meet one of the casting people. He met Shawn, Zac and I as a group, talked to us about what would happen if we were chosen (compensation, time, etc) and went over our applications. When he was checking out our photos, he noticed they all kinda matched and asked if we had them done just for the casting. We said yes and he laughed a bit and then Zac said, "Kelly's a pretty amazing photographer..." (it's a stretch, but I love him for it!) and the guy looked at me with one of those wide eyed expressions and a smile and said, "You did these?" Uh....yeah....Anyway, he seemed impressed and flashed me a huge grin.

He marked all of our applications with "extra experience", even though Zac is the only one who's been an extra before. He took Shawn and I's being in a spoof for a contest for MTV (not our best work!) and videos for Communications in high school as experience. I think he just liked us so he wanted to give us an extra shot.

Then he did us one better...he grouped us all in a file together and said if one of us was chosen, we'd all be chosen and thrown into a scene together.

I'm pretty stoked about this movie and I really hope we're chosen. If not, I'll still have over a month to try and paparazzi Clooney! Haha!

If we're chosen, I'll definitely be posting about it and I'll expect everyone to go see the movie and try to identify my face in the background!

Aside from the awesomeness of maybe being in a movie, this is going to do wonders for St. Louis. :-) I'm pretty happy about that!

My Amazing Friends...

Sun Dec 21, 2008, 11:30 AM
...bought me an enormous black backdrop with a huge stand (it's uber adjustable, too) for Christmas. They won't tell me how much it set them back, but I can figure it out. They are incredible. I told them they better not buy me anything and they go WAY against what I said and blew me away. I love them.

Going to play with it tonight!

Selling photo rights

Mon Dec 1, 2008, 8:03 AM
I was recently informed that one of the Belly Dance schools I photographed during Loop in Motion liked the photos I took and would like to buy the rights to them. They'll be getting in contact with me personally soon, but I honestly haven't got a clue about going about this. I know I need a contract. Other than that I don't know what terms to be sure to include, nor how much to charge.

Have any of you sold rights to your photos before? Any advice/help?

Thanks a million!
